Subject Description
This subject offers a practical introduction to creative writing through the three key genres of poetry, prose (fiction and non-fiction) and scriptwriting (screen and stage). It introduces students to a wide range of creative texts in the aim of developing their writing, editing and critical skills. It provides students with the opportunity to workshop their writing in class and engage with the work of their peers on the way to producing two creative folios.


Subject Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1. Identify and employ a range of creative writing techniques across the genres of poetry, prose and scriptwriting
2. Reflect critically on creative works from a range of genres
3. Apply drafting and sub-editing skills to a text in order to enhance its overall effect
4. Position their own writing within the broader context of contemporary literature
