Subject Description
This course is based on the idea of interventions in the landscape in the context of conceptual art photography. it will focus on the ways in which photographers have worked with urban and suburban landscape settings. Students will learn digital camera skills, digital manipulation and printing to make photographic artworks. Topics covered include: camera skills, exposure control, lighting, composition, Photoshop and presentation. Students will be introduced to program material via lectures and structured class exercises. Field trips and critiques will provide students with the required technical, formal and conceptual skills to undertake the self-directed project. Students are encouraged to develop independent learning through visual visual experiences, ideas and expressive practice. The subject will aim to develop the technical skills and creative potential of each student.

On successful completion of this subject, students will have:
1. Developed studio skills and an understanding of materials and practices in photography
2. Developed further independent management of self directed projects
3. Developed further strategies for resolving visual ideas
4. Broadened their understanding of the interpretive and critical skills needed in photography through reviewing their work through a comparison with relevant contemporary artists
5. Deepened their discipline understanding of contemporary arts practice and discussion of contemporary art movements
